In 2023, Yasmín Ramírez earned acclaim, securing a silver medal at the International Latino Book Awards for her memoir ¡Ándale, Prieta!, published by Lee and Low Books. She also received Honorable Mention for the 2023 Américas Award for Children’s and Young Adult Literature and earned a spot on the 2023 Top Ten List of the In the Margins YA Non Fiction Book Awards for the same work. Adding to her list of accolades, Ramirez was honored with the 2023 Southwest Book Award by the Border Regional Library Association, underscoring her significant contributions to regional literature.
A Martha’s Institute of Creative Writing Author Fellow and recipient of the Woody and Gayle Hunt-Aspen Institute Fellowship Award, Ramirez has gained notable recognition for her literary contributions. Serving as an Associate Professor at El Paso Community College, she actively contributes to the Borderplex arts community and held a position on the advisory board for BorderSenses, a literary non-profit organization, until April 2024.
